Ms. Kawauchi is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Macalester College and the University of Hawai‘i William S. Richardson School of Law.  Ms. Kawauchi is a former Harvard University fellow (2003-2004).  She previously served as assistant director of the Harvard Medical School Center of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities (2002-2004), and as a legal and public policy associate of the Harvard Law School/Harvard Graduate School of Education Civil Rights Project (2000-2002).  Ms. Kawauchi’s legal experience includes her service as a law clerk to the Honorable Greg K. Nakamura (1998-2000), as an associate with Carlsmith Ball LLP (2004-2006) and as an associate with Tsukazaki Yeh & Moore LLLP (2006-2008), in addition to her own law practice (2008-2010).  Ms. Kawauchi recently served on the County Charter Commission (2008-2010).  Ms. Kawauchi’s appointment as County Clerk (12-06-2010) was unanimously adopted by resolution by the County Council.

Mr. Lopez is a 2007 early retiree after a career with predominately Fortune 50 companies.  A native of California he relocated to Hawai‘i in 1998 while serving as a full time Project Manager telecommuter.  His professional experience spans assignments as an individual contributor to department head and executive management.   Following service with the USMC, Kawena, his Hawaiian gifted name, built his career in IT and Business Management having been successful in team development and leadership across a variety of business areas.  Kawena has traveled internationally on business assignments in many of his major accomplishments.  These include technical speaker at a worldwide conference in Goteborg, Sweden, Project leader of Work Flow Management for the Canada/USA/South America region, voted HP’s divisional MVP in 2000, as ISO 900 Certified Lead Auditor led divisional ISO 9000 award on first attempt and led Six Sigma Black Belt cost savings projects through measurable process improvements.  Kawena graduated from University of Maryland with a BS Degree in Business Management/Information Systems Management.  His recent efforts have been in support of Councilman K. Angel Pilago as a council aide and as legislative assistant.  He has been active in local community service as Ironman World Triathlon Timing Director, Coaching staff with Special Olympics West Hawai‘i, Childrens Justice Center, State Officer Knights of Columbus and many volunteer hours through St. Michael’s Catholic Church in service to our community.
