Mr. Stewart Maeda is serving his second term as the County Clerk to the 2014-2016 Hawai‘i County Council. In the 2014 General Election, Hawaii County’s electorate voted to increase the County Clerk’s term from two years to four years. He was first appointed as the County Clerk for the 2012-2014 Hawai‘i County Council in 2012.

Mr. Maeda was born in Hilo and graduated from Waiākea High School in 1980.   He went on to attend San Diego State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.   Returning to Hilo in 1987, he taught at Waiākea High School before pursing a career as a social worker. In 1989, he joined the Department of Human Services Child Welfare Services where he served as a Child Protective Services Social Worker.   He later became Supervisor of the Sex Abuse Unit at Child Welfare Services.   He left the Department in 2007 to work as a Family Conference Facilitator and Mediator for EPIC Ohana, Inc., a private non-profit agency, where he worked until 2012.

Mr. Stewart Maeda’s background in human services brings a unique perspective to the Office of the County Clerk.

Jon Henricks was born in Hilo, attended Ernest Bowen de Silva Elementary School, Hilo Intermediate School, and graduated from Hilo High School in 1991.

Jon earned an associate’s degree from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. He completed his education at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Indiana University.

Jon started at the Office of the County Clerk and Hawai‘i County Council as a legislative assistant to Council Member Fred Holshcuh, M.D. He then went on to work as a Legislative Specialist in the Legislative Research Branch from 2007 through 2014.

Jon’s Mother and Father were both civil servants, working for the State of Hawai‘i, and his sister, Kristina, is the veterinarian for the Hawai‘i Island Humane Society. He has two rambunctious children and a fantastic wife.
