Community workshops on proposed changes to Hawai‘i County Code, Chapter 5, pertaining to building

County staff from the Building department will clarify proposed changes to the Hawai`i County Code, chapter 5, contained within Bill 270, draft 3, that adopts the 2006 International Building Code (2006 IBC) with state and county amendments at community workshops in Kona, September 6, and in Hilo, September 7.

According to state law, the county of Hawai`i is required to adopt a building code using model codes and standards, such as the 2006 IBC, no later than two years after the adoption of the state building code.  The state building code was adopted in 2010.  The County complies with state law with the approval of Bill 270, draft 3. 

Workshops will be held on September 6 at the West Hawai‘i Civic Center, Community Meeting Hale  in Kailua-Kona from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and  at the Aupuni Center Conference Room, in Hilo from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., on September 7.
