Any combination of the following pieces of information may be submitted to show proof of ownership when redeeming an animal from Animal Control & Protection Agency. 

• Current Hawaiʻi County Dog License
• Registered microchip with up-to-date owner information
• Veterinary records including vaccination history or spay or neuter documentation, including owner's and pet's information 
• Adoption or purchase records
• Identification tags on the pet's collar with a phone number
• Estate plans
• Photographs from different angles which are clear and show distinguishing marks and features 
• For pets with caretakers who share custody, a notarized copy of the pet agreement documenting ownership and responsible parties
